Best Time to Visit Paris for Sightseeing
1. Spring in Paris: March to May
Spring is arguably the best time to visit Paris for sightseeing, and for good reason. From March to May, Paris transforms into a vibrant garden of flowers, with the city’s famous parks—like the Luxembourg Gardens and the Tuileries—bursting into bloom. The weather is mild, making it ideal for outdoor sightseeing without the summer crowds.I visited Paris in early April, and it was magical. The air was crisp, yet the sun was shining, and the flowers were in full bloom. I spent hours strolling along the Seine River, stopping at little cafés along the way, and marveling at the delicate cherry blossoms. It was the perfect weather for visiting iconic landmarks like the Eiffel Tower and Notre-Dame Cathedral without having to elbow my way through throngs of tourists. Why Visit in Spring?Pleasant temperatures (12°C to 18°C) that are comfortable for walking and sightseeing.Fewer tourists compared to the summer months.Beautiful gardens and outdoor attractions at their best.Travel Tip: Book tickets for major attractions like the Louvre or the Eiffel Tower in advance to skip the lines, which can still be a bit long, even in spring.
2. Summer in Paris: June to August
Summer in Paris, from June to August, is bustling and full of life. The city is alive with festivals, events, and outdoor concerts. However, this is also the peak tourist season, which means crowded attractions and higher hotel prices. While the weather is warm (often reaching 25°C to 30°C), the crowds can make sightseeing a bit challenging. That said, Paris during summer offers long days with extended daylight hours, allowing you to make the most of every moment.During my trip to Paris last July, I marveled at the view from Montmartre at sunset, and I joined the locals in enjoying a picnic on the Champ de Mars under the Eiffel Tower. The atmosphere was vibrant, but I quickly learned that to enjoy Paris in the summer, it's best to start your sightseeing early in the morning and avoid the midday heat. Why Visit in Summer?Extended daylight hours allow for more sightseeing time.Vibrant cultural festivals and outdoor events like Paris Plages and Bastille Day.Ideal for enjoying Paris’ outdoor cafés and strolling along the Seine.Travel Tip: To beat the heat and crowds, explore less-visited attractions like the Musée Marmottan Monet or the Canal Saint-Martin neighborhood.
3. Autumn in Paris: September to November
Autumn is one of my favorite times to visit Paris. From September to November, the weather is still pleasant, but the summer crowds have started to thin out, allowing for a more relaxed experience. The crisp autumn air, combined with the golden hues of the falling leaves, makes Paris even more enchanting.I visited Paris in October and was able to enjoy both the major tourist sites like the Arc de Triomphe and hidden gems like the Montparnasse Cemetery. The crowds were much smaller, making it easier to explore. Plus, the city’s parks and gardens took on a magical quality, with vibrant reds and oranges replacing the spring blossoms. Why Visit in Autumn?Cooler weather with fewer tourists, making it perfect for sightseeing.Beautiful fall foliage that adds charm to the city’s parks and gardens.Less expensive than the summer months, with lower hotel rates.Travel Tip: Autumn is harvest season, so don’t miss out on the delicious seasonal foods available at Parisian markets, such as fresh apples, chestnuts, and pumpkins.
4. Winter in Paris: December to February
Winter in Paris may be cold, but it offers a completely different experience compared to the other seasons. From December to February, the city is less crowded, making it an excellent time to visit iconic sights without the long lines. The holiday season also brings a magical charm to Paris, with beautiful Christmas markets, festive lights, and the iconic ice skating rink at the Grand Palais.During my visit to Paris in December, I experienced the city’s winter wonderland firsthand. The Champs-Élysées was adorned with twinkling lights, and the smell of roasted chestnuts filled the air. I visited the Notre-Dame Christmas market, where I picked up handcrafted souvenirs and sipped on hot mulled wine. Although it was chilly, the winter atmosphere added to the romance and charm of the city. Why Visit in Winter?Fewer tourists and quieter streets for a more peaceful sightseeing experience.Holiday decorations and festive events, such as Christmas markets and light displays.Lower hotel prices and fewer crowds at popular attractions.Travel Tip: Bundle up and enjoy indoor activities like visiting museums (many offer discounts in the winter months) or enjoying the warm atmosphere of Parisian cafés.
